A 1989 built passenger ferry trading in the Adriatic, suffered piston/liner seizure in one unit which resulted to damage of bottom-end bearings and crankshaft crankpins. Although initially crankshaft was reported as most likely condemned, upon our intervention and joint attendances - acting on behalf H&M Underwriters - with Engine Makers Service Engineer and Owners’ Superintendent on board, on completion of thorough NDT examination of crankpins, the crankshaft was salved, by in-situ machining of the damaged crankpins.
